Lagazel inaugure ce jeudi 7 octobre son deuxième atelier de fabrication de lampes et kits solaires à Porto Novo au Bénin, sous le parrainage du Ministre de l’Energie et en présence de nombreuses personnalités. L’entreprise continue ainsi son développement en faveur d’un modèle industriel durable au bénéfice du développement économique local.
C’est à Porto Novo que Lagazel a choisi d’implanter son deuxième atelier de fabrication de lampes et kits solaires en Afrique. Déjà présente au Burkina Faso depuis 2016 où 80 000 produits solaires ont été fabriqués, l’entreprise Lagazel continue son développement en faveur de l’industrialisation locale du continent africain.
Au sein de l’atelier, Lagazel fabrique une gamme de lampes et kits solaires pour l’éclairage, la recharge de téléphone, et l’alimentation de petits équipements électriques. Soudure électronique, mise en forme des pièces métalliques, câblage, contrôle qualité…, autant d’opérations sur lesquelles une dizaine de techniciens ont été formés afin de fabriquer des produits qui répondent aux standards de qualité Verasol de la Banque Mondiale (anciennement Lighting Global).
Alors que la plupart des produits solaires distribués en Afrique sont importés d’Asie, Lagazel se démarque sur le marché du solaire hors-réseau en proposant des produits fabriqués localement. « Notre objectif est d’accroitre la valeur ajoutée locale de nos produits afin de développer l’activité économique locale mais aussi apporter aux clients un vrai service de proximité », explique Arnaud Chabanne, co-Fondateur de l’entreprise. Grâce à sa présence locale, Lagazel assure ainsi le dépannage des produits solaires et développe également des activités pour le reconditionnement des batteries lithium et panneaux solaires en fin de vie. Une vraie démarche d’économie circulaire qui doit permettre de réduire les émissions de CO2 par rapport au modèle de production actuel, et contribuer ainsi à un développement économique durable. Son savoir-faire industriel couplé à son expérience du marché africain permet aussi à Lagazel de proposer des services de sous-traitance industrielle locale aux entreprises intéressées par le « Made in Africa ».
Ce développement au Bénin a été facilité par l’appui de partenaires financiers tels que MCA Bénin II dans le cadre du programme OCEF, mais aussi l’AFD-FFEM ou encore UKaid. Depuis plus d’un an, Lagazel collabore avec l’institut de recherche IFSRA afin d’évaluer la viabilité de la production locale, l’impact sur l’employabilité, et les retombées économiques et sociales directes et indirectes du projet sur la population locale et la collectivité locale.
Arnaud Chabanne présente sa vision : « En tant qu’entreprise responsable, nous avons aussi pour rôle de contribuer au développement de la cité ». Ainsi Lagazel a installé deux stations de charge collective de lampes solaires Kalo, permettant à 80 élèves de CM2 de l’école voisine de Todowa d’accéder à un éclairage de qualité. Un élève a pris la parole : « Nous remercions Lagazel pour les lampes qui permettront aux élèves de CM2 d’étudier dans de bonnes conditions. Mais notre groupe scolaire compte plus de 700 élèves, et avec l’appui de partenaires, nous souhaiterions pouvoir couvrir tout l’effectif d’ici la fin de l’année scolaire ». L’appel à contribution est donc lancé !

At last, quality solar lamps and solar-home-systems made in Benin!
On Thursday, October 7, 2021, Lagazel inaugurated its second solar lamp and solar-home-system manufacturing plant in Porto Novo, with the support of the Ministry of Energy, in the presence of a number of prominent members of the community. The company continues its development trajectory in favor of a sustainable industrial model that boosts local economic development.
Lagazel has chosen to establish its second African manufacturing plant for solar lamps and solar-home-systems in Porto Novo. The company has been present in Burkina Faso since 2016, and has produced 80,000 solar products there. Lagazel pursues its growth based on a model that favors local industrial development in Africa.
In its workshops, Lagazel manufactures a range of solar lamps and solar-home-systems used for lighting, recharging phones, and providing electricity for smaller devices. A dozen technicians have been trained in electronic soldering, production of metal parts, cabling, and quality control operations, to produce products that meet the World Bank’s Verasol international quality standards (previously known as Lighting Global).
While most solar products distributed in Africa are imported from Asia, Lagazel stands out in the off-grid market, offering products that are manufactured locally. “Our goal is to increase the local added value of our products, to develop local economic activity, and also to provide our clients with a genuinely local service”, explains Arnaud Chabanne, co-founder of the company. Thanks to its local presence, Lagazel can guarantee repair of its solar products, and it ensures development of refurbishing of lithium batteries and solar panels at the end of their life cycle. This results in a truly circular action that contributes to reducing CO2 emissions better than current production methods, and thus contributes to sustainable economic development. The company’s industrial know-how, combined with its experience in the African market, also enables Lagazel to offer local industrial sub-contracting services to companies interested in the “Made in Africa” label.
The company’s new development in Benin was accelerated by the support of financial partners that include MCA Bénin II under its OCEF program, the French Development Agency AFD-FFEM, and UKaid. For the past year, Lagazel has been working with the IFSRA Research Institute to assess the viability of local production, the impact on employability, and the direct and indirect economic and social impact of the project on the local population and collectivity.
Arnaud Chabanne outlines his vision: “As a responsible company, we also contribute to development of the municipality”. Thus, Lagazel has installed two collective charging stations for its Kalo solar lamps, enabling 80 students at the CM2 level (the last year of grammar school) in the neighboring school of Todowa to have access to quality lighting. A student said: “We thank Lagazel for the lights that make it possible for the CM2 students to study in good conditions. But our school group is made up of more than 700 students, and with the support of the project’s partners, we hope to be able to meet the needs of all the students between now and the end of the school year.” The call for contributions has thus been sent out!
