The stakes for solar lighting in Africa
650 million people do not have access to electricity in Africa. Light is a vital necessity: without light during the night, children cannot study, adults cannot work, nurses cannot perform healthcare, etc.
African populations are thus obliged to use battery lights or petrol lamps that are imported, fragile, dangerous to their health and for the environment, and that drain their savings. The solar lamp, durable and economical, is the right solution for Africa.

The story of our human adventure
By combining the experience they have gained in their two companies, Arnaud and Maxence Chabanne are able to innovate and to propose an original project that goes against the grain, a project that is completely different from anything that is currently on the market. Under the brand name LAGAZEL, their goal is to provide to the greatest number of people products and solar lamps that are produced locally in Africa and that genuinely meet the needs of the consumer market.
Local manufacture
The brothers’ common desire was to produce locally innovative products that respected the environment, and that were also reliable, sustainable and efficient. The goal of their project was to be established in the heart of the population, by recruiting and training their personnel on site. Within the next 5 years, LAGAZEL hopes to have created five regional workshops active in West and East Africa.
Solidarity-bases Partnerships
Lagazel, with its strong social vision, has naturally partnered up with associations that put solidarity-based projects into place in countries where the company is present. The objective is to favor the acquisition of solar lamps by the needy, and to encourage access to energy over time, while developing the local economy.
