A PARTICULARLY RUGGED SOLAR LAMP
Light is a vital need, and many people who are not connected to a reliable electricity grid are obliged to use other sources of light. It is indispensable to be able to rely on a particularly rugged lamp, which can stand up to difficult conditions without letting its users down.
Difficult living conditions in Africa
Lagazel’s initial project was to offer Africans the capacity to have light every day. Each lamp was thus designed bearing in mind the living conditions in remote villages or peri-urban zones without efficient public infrastructures in African countries like Burkina Faso. To remain reliable and useful over a long period of time, each device must meet strict specifications.
The weather can result in extreme conditions. The heat of the dry season, and heavy rains during the wet season, are very testing for electronics. Every solar lamp and every photovoltaic panel produced by Lagazel needs to be robust enough to resist time spent in bright sunshine, in dusty conditions.
People who use our solar lamps in Europe or in the Americas benefit from lamps that are particularly rugged for their living conditions, which are considerably less difficult. In spite of this advantage, daily use of a lamp can however lead to dropping and impacts. A moment of distraction, awkwardness, clumsiness, and the lamp falls to the ground: Lagazel’s lamps are specifically designed to resist these incidents.
A particularly robust design
Lagazel, a brand that is physically present in the African market, with production workshops in Burkina Faso, is sensitive to local issues. The robust solar lamp we design is made with a metal casing that is specially conceived to resist impacts. We have not compromised on resistance, with models that weigh between 450 grams and 520 grams, and that feel solid from the moment you first hold one in your hand.
Lagazel’s products are compliant with Lighting Global quality criteria, an initiative of the World Bank that promotes autonomous solar energy worldwide as a source of development.
