A SOLIDARY AND SOLIDARITY-BASED SOLAR LAMP: LIGHT FOR ALL
Kalo solar lamps provide African families with the opportunity to have access to quality, sustainable and affordable lighting.
Families can save up to 10% of the budget they would previously have dedicated to purchasing batteries or recharging telephones. The children can study in better conditions: in addition to better quality lighting, they are no longer exposed to smoke or fire risk. Living conditions are improved: domestic tasks are performed in greater comfort, and moving around can be done more safely. Economic activities can be developed, even after nightfall, which comes early all year round. Lastly, contrary to petrol lamps that emit CO2 and toxic fumes, or battery-operated lamps that create waste, solar lamps are much better for the environment.
Measuring the impact of solar lamps
To measure the impact linked to the used of solar lamps, LAGAZEL uses the standardized impact indicators developed for the off-grid energy sector by the Global Off-Grid Lighting Association (GOGLA), in coordination with the IRIS Global Impact Investing Network (GINN) initiative.
